So I have posted about my foray into Geminispace. The small web. It's not dark, or sketchy (OK, I guess some capsules can be), or nefarious.
What it is, is a small, quiet corner of the internet that strips away the noise of the modern web. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no paywalls, no flashy images or bright shiny things (for my ADHD friends).
It is a small, deliberate community.
But, that also means your average everyday person has absolutely no clue what it is or that it even exists.
So, I created a thing to aid in that. It is called "Gemcities" and is a play on the old familar "Geocities" idea, except using Gemini protocol and Gemspace. It is free, always will be free, open source, and dead simple to get a non-tech person up and running in minutes.
You create an account, you get a url of username.gemcities.com and edit the "gemtext" right in the browser and get a view of what it will look like in Gemspace. Then, if you want the full experience, you donwload a Gemini/Gopher browser like Kristall, Lagrange (if you want a GUI browser) or Amfora, or Bombadillo for a TUI (terminal UI) experience.
Dial in your Gemcities site, and voila! You are now publishing in the Geminispace!
