About
Hi, I'm Nick. I'm a web developer, coder, writer, and retro computing enthusiast running this site from a Mac Mini in my home.
I've been building things online for a long time... from BBS systems and hand-coded HTML in the '90s to modern PHP apps today. I'm particularly interested in the intersection of old-school computing culture and the modern web.
I got into computers in the mid-1980's, ran BBS systems in the 90's, worked as a data analyst at the beginnings of broadband, been a help desk tech, a systems admin, a help desk supervisor, and now an IT business systems analyst.
What I Do
- Web Development - PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Retro Computing - BBS systems, DOS applications, classic hardware
- Writing - Technical articles, personal essays, short stories and novellas
- Self-hosting - Running my own services at home
This Site
This site is built with plain PHP, no framework, running on Apache on a Mac Mini with Debian 12 Linux at home. Traffic comes through a WireGuard VPN tunnel to a VPS running Caddy for TLS termination. See the colophon for full details.
